In The Mysterious Benedict Society, by Trenton Lee Stewart, the words, phrases, and events make the mood mysterious and suspicious. In one part of the book two highly trained kidnappers sneak into the Benedict house and try to kidnap the four special kids: Reynie, Sticky, Kate, and Constance. In another event, Mr. Benedict shows the kids how an evil mastermind is sending “secret messages” to people’s minds. The people then hear voices in their minds and go crazy. Also, there is a phrase that really made me feel mysterious. The founder of a school for kids who are talented said, “That things are going to change, things are going to improve.” The kids think that he, Mr. Curtain, is the mastermind. When I read this, I thought that the things that are going to improve were the “secret messages.”  It meant that Mr. Curtain is going to make the “messages” worse and torture people more. These are only a few of things that created the mood of this book. Throughout this whole book I have found many mysterious and suspicious things; no wonder it’s called The Mysterious Benedict Society!
