Between Shades of Grey, by Ruta Sepetys  is about 15 year old Lina and her experience at a concentration camp in Siberia. This novel is absolutely amazing because it takes you back in history to understand the sorrow of this horrible time. 15 year old Lina is a part of Stalin’s nefarious acts of genocide. Not only can you relate to Lina, but you feel like you are right there with her. The novel is very beautifully written. A quote that I found that relates to this is from Artist Jacob Lawrence, “When the subject is strong, simplicity is the only way to treat it.” Ruta Sepetys does not lighten the subject, but she provides this story that is simply jaw- dropping.
