In the book Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, Mr. Logan and his family are trapped in a world of murder, racism, and fights. They must chose which road to take. The road of violence and destruction, or the road of love and compromises. Although they supposedly make the right choice the family is faced with another problem, a fire. Now they have to fight desperately to control the fire which is destroying the cotton like long, sharp claws. With the fire comes clouds of smoke, enveloping the fields like a huge black blanket. The people work side by side, but fear and mortification spreads quickly pushing the people to complete an impossible task. Although odds are stacked against them, the men and women, working hard, cling to the hope that the destructive force will soon vanish. And so it does.
