I really didn’t like “most” of the novel Across Five Aprils by Irene Hunt. Why?  Part of the reason is that even though the author uses good voice, I disliked the atrocious grammar.  The other reason is that too much of the book is details of the war, not the main characters. For example, in chapters 11 and 12, almost all of it is about what is happening in the war.  However, I do like the way the author builds up the characterization of the family members, such as Jenny and Shad’s love for each other.  If you ask me, this book is a snore fest and only the characters are appealing.
