In the novel, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, the church is not Tom Sawyer’s favorite place to be. In the church there are a lot of quiet people like sneaky mice searching for cheese. There are also pews that are long and hard; it is like sitting on a bench in a prison cell. To Tom, the pastor speaking is like a fly buzzing in the background. The reason Tom sits in the middle of the pew is to be farther from the big yawning window; he will jump out of the window and start playing. For Tom being in church is like hearing his aunt give him a lecture on chores.
