Gregor makes it back safely to the real world (Earth) in Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane, the second book in the Underland Chronicles. Gregor finally has his whole family back. But when his sister, Boots, goes missing, Gregor has to save her, so he goes down to the Underland even though he promised he would never go back. After finding Boots safely in the Underland, Gregor has to defeat the Bane, a white rat that comes only rarely. Bane is very strong and wants to destroy the humans of the Underland. Gregor will have to kill it by himself. Gregor, accompanied by his bat and others from Underland, have to go on a voyage to get the Bane. The only way to get to the Bane is through the Waterway, so they have to take a boat. Many tragic events happen on the boat, including sea serpents on the ocean floor and rats that can almost reach them, and losing Boots and Luxa. Will Gregor conquer the mighty Bane, or will he be defeated? Will Luxa and Boots turn up or are they gone forever?
I liked this book very much; it was adventurous and exciting. Another thing I enjoyed was Gregor’s courage. Even though Boots and Luxa are missing he moves on. This story made me feel tingly when Gregor was with the Bane. This book might be slow at some times, but you get over the slow parts quickly.
I recommend this book to boys and girls 11 years old and up. There are cockroaches and big rats which is very different and exciting. Kids would like this novel because the author gives good detail so you can tell what’s going on and there is a lot of action.
