Mrs. Herr asked the students to write a blog post to express how they feel about being required to keep journals as they read their novels.  Here are Jackson’s thoughts…

Journaling is the worst thing ever.  I don’t like journaling because you have to write.  It’s crazy!  You have to journal every time you finish a chapter.  You have to include vocabulary, characterization, the setting, feelings and response and the plot point.  If you want to, you can draw a picture to understand what went on in the chapter.  You are required to bring your journal every day to Eagle Up.  Maybe later I will like journaling, but probably not; it might be easier if I journal every 2-3 chapters.  That will make it way better.

Ha!  Jackson, you are a better writer than you think, even though you clearly don’t like doing it!  I am hoping that you will hate it less as we go along.  Try journaling every 3 chapters or so and see if that helps.  I believe writing will be less painful by doing it more often, and I think the benefit will outweigh the aggravation in the end!  ~Mrs. Herr
