Mrs. Herr asked the students to write a blog post to express how they feel about being required to keep journals as they read their novels.  Here are Luke’s thoughts…

Do you think doing journals is fun and easy? They aren’t! These journals make it hard to pick out the parts in the book. It’s hard because all I’m doing is worrying on the journals. I can’t read the book because I just think “what am I going to put in the journal?”  I always worry that I’m going to miss something important in the book.  Not all of the things are bad in them though. When something important happens it’s good to put it all down on paper, so you can see it. Once you think it out, you can make pictures and connections from the book.

Good thoughts Luke!  Thanks for your honesty about the stress it can cause; that is absolutely valid!  I suggest you read at least 5 chapters at a time (up to 10), and then use a couple of journal pages to jot down main events, characters, etc.  ~Mrs. Herr
